How I Got to Where I Am...
I always knew I would be a teacher in some fashion. From an early age, I have had a passion for learning. I had no favorites, but I was naturally drawn to history and science. From before I can remember, my life has been dedicated to two passions: science fiction and medieval reenactment. From science fiction I learned to embrace the unknown and the impossible and imagine a world where it could be possible. From medieval reenactment, I learned to appreciate the past for what it can teach us about where we are and where we are going. Despite this passion for learning and teaching, however, it took me some time to realize what I needed to do with it.
Before I chose to become an elementary teacher, I was studying to become an Archaeologist. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Eastern Michigan University with a B.A. in Anthropology with a minor in Linguistics. I then attended a top-research school in Wales, United Kingdom, known as Cardiff University where I received an M.A. in Early Celtic Studies, a subset of the Archaeology program. For a long time, I thought that I wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of my life digging up pieces of the past and trying to make sense of how life used to be.

Of course, life doesn't always go the way we plan, and six months after I came back I either needed a job or a PhD, and neither of them were forthcoming. I eventually heard about substitute teaching from a friend. I always liked kids - one of my biggest desires as an archaeologist was to work with a museum and promote youth activities in archaeology - and thought it might be a good fit for me while I looked at various graduate programs.
Two weeks later, it was all over. I had found my calling. I have never looked back.
